Boarding at the Royal High School, Bath

The Daily Routine

During the week, the girls are woken at 07.15 which is followed by breakfast in the Dining Room from 07.45 – 08.15. At the weekends, of course, the girls are able to enjoy a bit more of a lie-in – Sunday breakfast is a treat which consists of croissants and warm rolls! After school each day the girls return to the House for toast and biscuits, prior to joining in with after school activities or just relaxing in front of their favourite television programme. In the sunnier months, great enjoyment is taken from just being able to be outside in the grounds, playing rounders, football or just taking the air. Prep is from 18.30 – 19.30 for all age groups. The older pupils will continue with their prep until such time that they are satisfied everything is finished. Particular study support is given to our Year 11 boarders in their GCSE year.

After supper and prep, there are optional activities such as music practice, drama rehearsals, swimming (in the summer and early autumn), games in the Sports Hall or just simply relaxing in the common rooms. All boarders have access to e-mail and Internet facilities in the evenings and at weekends as well as during the academic day. Bedtime is according to age and is overseen by the house staff.

Weekends

On Saturday mornings boarders participate in a wide range of Extra Curricular Activities, including Badminton, Table Tennis, Trampolining, Dance and Football. Saturday afternoons are traditionally shopping time; the younger age groups are taken into town by the GAP students and the older pupils are allowed to go in groups –everyone is back by supper time at the latest. Some weekends see excursions to local places of interest or more adventurous activities such as camping and watersports.
