The Friends of the Royal High School Committee is always on the hunt for new members! We are made up of staff and parents and meet twice a term with no obligation to come to every meeting. If you are interested in joining us, helping at various events or being part of the decision making process that affects the lives of the pupils at the school, we'd love to hear from you. Who are we?

The Friends of The Royal High School is a lively and enthusiastic fundraising and social committee serving the junior and senior schools and sixth form college.  We are made up of a balance of parents and staff and come together at the senior school for two evening meetings a term.  Parents are welcome to attend our meetings.

Why are we here?

  • To enhance the educational experience of children at The Royal High by raising funds for items and activities that fall outside the school budget.
  • To organise social and cultural activities for parents and families with the aim of making them feel a welcome and valued part of the school community.
  • To manage fund requests and the allocation of funds.

What does the money get spent on?

We deal with a whole variety of fund requests and will consider anything, large or small, as long as it enhances the educational experience.  Fund allocation meetings are held twice a year in January and June. Details of funding are publicised in the weekly school newsletters. Below are examples of where money has been spent.

2010-11

  • Telescope for the benefit of the whole school
  • Infra-red camera for senior school science department
  • Funding for three raised vegetable beds for Sixth Form College Gardening Project (also involving Yr7/8)
  • Sponsorship of a 'Puzzle Challenge Day' - fun maths related activities at the senior school, provided by the Happy Puzzle Company.
  • Big bean bags for the junior school library
  • Bird table and three bird feeders for the junior school.
  • Two video editing stations (2 MacBooks and 2 HDDV video cameras) for use by both the junior school and senior school.
