Students at The Royal High School Bath GDST are celebrating the best set of A Level results that the school has ever achieved. 84% of the grades gained by the students were A*-B and well over a quarter of those results were given the new A* grade for exceptionally high achievement. To gain an A* students have to score over 90% in each paper they take in their Upper Sixth year in addition to getting A grades for their AS levels.
49% of the year group gained at least one A*.
Seven RHS students gained a ‘clean sweep’ of A* grades: Elizabeth Antell (History, St Andrews); Louise Rouse (Stage Management, The Royal Welsh College); Finn Staff (Philosophy, LSE); Rosie Ward (Classics with Oriental Studies, Oxford), and Frances Williams (Architecture, Cambridge). Jo Pinkard, who scored her four A* grades in Economics, History, Maths and Philosophy and now heads to Oxford to read PPE, said, “I can’t quite believe I’ve done it! I had an incredible goal to work towards and school has been great at guiding me at every step”. Other notable achievements include Xenatasha Cologne-Brookes who gained four A* grades and two A grades, amassing an extraordinary 800 UCAS points. Xenatasha now goes to Oxford to read Maths.
Head of The Royal High School, Rebecca Dougall, is thrilled with the students’ success, “I am so proud of our students. It’s wonderful that all their hard work has paid off; there’s nothing better for a school to see its students heading off to the best universities in the country to study subjects they have a real passion for. It has been an exceptionally hard year for applicants to Higher Education, so the smiles and congratulations are all the more satisfying. Coming after our terrific first set of IB results, it really is fantastic to have our best ever A Level results and it’s a tribute to the quality of staff and students at RHS Bath.”
