Maths Week's a Real Plus for Pupils
From The Bath Chronicle Thu 11 Nov, 2010
Children at a Bath school have been using puzzles and games to learn to love maths. The Royal High Junior School held a maths week full of special lessons and activities to help pupils enjoy learning the subject more. Parents were invited into lessons to give talks about how they used mathematical skills in their jobs and to see for themselves how the subject is taught. The week finished with a Maths Hat Day, when pupils were challenged to design and make a hat that celebrated arithmetic. Karen Parsons, the school's maths co-ordinator, said: "The children have really enjoyed the programme of games and activities. They feel a real sense of achievement when they discover how to solve a mathematical puzzle or problem and it gives a big boost to their confidence in a subject that is too often seen as daunting".
