'Old Girls' Reunited at School
From The Bath Chronicle Thu 13 May, 2010
A group of former pupils at a Bath school organised their own reunion to meet up again 34 years on. Around 40 'old girls' from the Royal School, which is now the Royal High School on Lansdown, arranged to get together to reminisce about their school days. The 1976 and 1978 school leavers travelled from around the world to attend the event, flying in from Australia, Canada, Bermuda, Dubai, Kenya and Holland. They took part in a tour of the school before catching up over lunch at the Lansdown Grove Hotel. One of the organisers Sarah Dodson, who now lives near Basingstoke, said she had come up with the idea after bumping into a face from the past. She said, "I had a chance meeting last November with a school friend who I had only seen once before in the 34 years since we both left the Royal School. We chatted and couldn't believe that we were both about to turn 50 and that it was so long since we had left school. The seed for a reunion was sown and then at the end of January this year we decided to go for it with the help of another friend who had been better at keeping in touch with people than either of us had. We thought it would be fun to have Bath as the venue and have a look around the school again. The event certainly lived up to expections. Most people were pretty recognisable and although there are now a few grey hairs, we all looked pretty good. The school was really kind, giving us a fantastic rour. We were quite impressed and we had a great time looking around."
