School Wins Report Praise
From The Bath Chronicle Thu 18 Nov, 2010
A Bath independent school is celebrating after receiving a positive inspection report. The Independent Schools Inspectorate has congratulated the Royal High School on its quality of education and high level of achievement. The report said: "From the early years foundation stage to the sixth form, the quality of pupils' achievements, their learning, attitudes and basic skills are excellent." The personal development of pupils of all ages was described as 'outstanding' and inspectors said that 'relationships between staff and pupils and amongst pupils of all ages are excellent, supportive and relaxed.' Inspectors also acknowledged the school's exam success this year which saw its best-ever A level results, with 84% of grades at A* to B. Head teacher Rebecca Dougall said she was particularly delighted with the praise for the junior school's early years foundation stage, for children aged five and under, which was rated as 'outstanding.' "It's a real boost for all of us to know that we are laying down such a strong foundation for learning." Mrs Dougall, who took over the headship at the beginning of this year, added: "One of the issues for us is the high demands placed on our pupils in the GCSE years. "Many fo them choose to take 11 or more subjects and it is important that they have sufficient time for valuable cultural, sporting and other activities. "I am pleased to see that the inspectors have endorsed our process of review to address this."
