Singing Plays Big Part in School's Life
From The Bath Chronicle Thu 17 Dec, 2009
The Royal High Junior School has become the first in the city to be presented with a gold Sing Up award for its success in introducing singing to the classroom. Children have been encouraged to use song in all areas of their work, including in the playground, while they are getting changed for PE and during registration. Teacher Jess Knights, who co-ordinated the school's submission for the award, said it had really made a difference to their learning. She said: 'We have found that singing can really brighten up the day for everyone and contributes to a happy and positive atmosphere. The children and staff have identified some novel ways of introducing more signing into the everyday activities. 'The children have also composed songs for their houses for special events such as Sports Day.' Sing Up is a national initiative and aims to improve children's confidence and social development through music.
