Sisters Meet High Hopes

Biathlon Athletes from The Royal High School showed their mettle in the finals of the Pentathlon GB Schools Modern Biathlon Championships at Crystal Palace on Sunday. Sisters Laura and Izzy McNab achieved fantastic individual results of second in Year 5 and eighth in Year 6 respectively and will now have the chance to compete in the British Championships inBirmingham in May. The schools Year 5 and Year 8 teams both brouht home bronze medals after their aggregate scores put them third overall in their respective age groups. Head of sport Clare Elsley said: "We are very proud. Nearly all the girls achieved at least one personal best in the swimming or running, which shows their determination and commitment to their teams. It has been a great experience for all of them to be part of such a prestigious competition and to savour the atmosphere at one of the country's top athletics venues." Around 750 competitors from all over the country had successfully won through earlier local and regional heats to reach the finals, which saw younger competitiors swim 50 metres and run 500 metres. The distances were doubled for the older age groups.
