Super Sisters Seal Double

Biathlon athletes from The Royal High School showed their mettle in the qualifying round of the Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships at the University of Bath. More than 40 schools from the West took part in the competition, which is open to junior and secondary pupils who can enter as a team or as individuals. Younger competitors have to swim 50m and run 500m and the distances are doubled for the older age groups. Points are based on the times achieved in the swimming and running events and aggregated to give overall individual and team scores. Royal High competitors achieved a stunning set of results. Sisters Laura and Izzy McNab both bagged first place respectively in the Year 5 and 6 competitions. Imogen Clayton came third overall in the Year 5 event, joining Laura on the podium and helping the school win the team competition in the same category. The Year 8 team won first place, and the two teams entered for the Year 11 competition were placed second and third. the Yer 7 team also achieved a very creditable third place. As a result, Royal High's Year 5 and 8 teams both progress on to the next round of the competition, the South West, Southern and Welsh Counties regional semi-final, which will also be held at the unviersity in January. Alexandra Withey, Sophie Langman, Rachel Li and Alex Carter from the senior school also qualified invidivually.
