Commedia Dell Arte

On Thursday 24th June, all the Year 9s were involved in a performance of 8 Commedia plays which they had devised, scripted and rehearsed and for which some of them had also created technical support. The year long project, in collaboration with the Music Department, gives all the pupils the chance to explore this style of theatre, take on the stock characters and learn about different technical elements, such as lighting, costume and set design. They created plays with original music which were performed to parents and friends in a competition judged by the actress, Lisa Coleman. The following day saw the Year 5s from the Junior School take part in a workshop on the Commedia style, supported by some Year 9s. They then had the chance to watch a performance in the afternoon of four of the plays.
