Junior Netball Fixture v All Hallows School

Fri 29 Jan, 2010

On Thursday 28th January the U10 A/B and U11A/B took part in a Netball fixture against All Hallows. The U11A team were off to a strong start moving the ball quickly and accurately down court to present the first goal. They utilised their centre passes well, attempting to score at goal on each occasion. With many changes being made throughout the game, and different combinations being tried and tested, the girls fought intensely to produce some exceptional displays of Netball. With a few passing errors towards the end, they let All Hallows capitalise on our mistakes, and had to work hard to close the deficit. The final score meant that the game finished 7-6 to All Hallows. What a start to the season though, a performance to be very proud of by all. Player of the match: Beth Jolley for a superb performance all round!   U11B team were ready for action and had planned their set-plays ready for the whistle. They made their mark from the first centre pass, demonstrating just how easy the game can be played. Utilising the ‘one in’ and ‘one out’ team talk, the girls moved the ball beautifully into space with great understanding of each others' movements. With numerous interceptions being made up and down the court they were certainly in fine form. At half time, the whole attacking end were changed, and substitutions were made to make a dynamic impact on our performance. With great attacking and defending, the girls finally won 6-2. It was a super effort by all involved and was an exceptionally pleasing start to the season with huge amounts of potential all round.  Well done!  Player of the match: Isabelle Philpotts for excellent work-rate and accuracy in passing.  U10AThe U10A team were fired up and ready to go from the first whistle. They used impressive passing to move the ball up and down the court whilst utilising great spacing in their positions. The girls attacked at speed and fought hard in defence, making numerous interceptions and creating opportunities at goal. They opened up the game by using ‘quick ball’ from player to player, and 1-2’s into the circle to shoot at goal. With play moving from end to end, and scoring goal to goal, the match was exhilarating to watch. The girls should all be very proud of their performances on the day even though the final score meant that they lost 9-7 overall. Player of the match: Charlotte Churchill for outstanding shooting and great teamwork; Isabelle Beresford for excellent distribution of the ball.  U10BThe U10B team played diligently throughout the match, attacking and defending with great heart and spirit. They lacked understanding of each others' movements at times, which the opposition were able to capitalise on. Moving the ball down court, the girls had plenty of opportunity to shoot at goal, but failed to find the net at the crucial time. In great team spirit, the girls fought bravely to the end, but the final score meant that All Hallows won the game 6-2. The result certainly reflected the Y5 levels of attendance to the lunch-time Netball club offered to them on Fridays. It would be great to see more of them present to practise set-plays and movement skills which would help their game tremendously. Player of the match: Isabella Francomb for accurate shooting and good distribution of the ball.
