U11A and U10 Rounders Tournament - 19 May 2010

The Royal High school fielded an U11 and an U10 team in this rounders tournament hosted by King Edwards School, on 19 May 2010 at their Bathampton fields. With a slightly overcast chilly feel to the afternoon, both teams were feeling nervous yet excited at the prospect of an afternoon of rounders against many other competing schools.

The U11A side started against a strong KES A side losing 6-3 ½, with ½ rounders scored from many of the RHS girls in their batting innings. They went on to face Stonar, with the RHS U11A side opting to field first; this they did with great effect keeping Stonar to only 1 ½ rounders. Joanna White went to make an extremely difficult catch at second base and fell foul of the ball, retiring injured from the remainder of the matches; her team were, however, determined to win their remaining matches in her honour. This they did with a 2-1½  win over Stonar and a 5½ -3 win over the Paragon with Amelia Harker and Harriet White both scoring a rounder each. With the playoff places being decided on the number of players out during the group stages, the RHS U11A just missed out by 1 on a place in the semi finals; instead they faced Monkton Coombe A in a playoff for 5th or 6th. Whilst the girls tried extremely hard to gain the upper hand, they lost to Monkton Coombe eventually 7½ -4 and finished the tournament in 6th place. The U10A side played 5 matches in their tournament, winning 3 games and losing 2. Isabel Beresford and Emilia Sill put in outstanding performances, but the whole team are to be commended for their excellent performance throughout the tournament. The U10A side finished in joint 3rd place with Colstons.
