Netball fixture v Monkton Combe Junior School
Mon 25 Jan, 2010
On Friday 22nd January, the U11 A/B and C Netball teams took part in a fixture against Monkton Combe. In appalling weather conditions, the A and B teams had to battle against their opposition outside in the cold and wet! In their usual great spirit, the girls were ready and raring to go from the whistle and set out with a point to prove. The A team moved the ball well across the width of the court, but at times came unstuck through passing errors into the circle. They fought hard to win every ball, and made numerous interceptions to show their athleticism across the court. With an end to end thriller of a game, the result finished 3-2 in Monkton’s favour. However, for the first run out of the season, there were many positives to take from the game. Player of the match: Joanna White for her interception rate!
The B team were next on, demonstrating their intent to beat Monkton’s A team! They went out and shone across the court, making great tips and intercepts whilst utilising both long and short ball. Harriet White and Yasmin Scarr moved the ball beautifully into space for each other and showed great understanding of their movement around the court. Isabelle Philpotts also linked the defence to attack well, whilst the remainder of the team worked tirelessly to capitalise on Monkton’s mistakes. The final score finished 5-4 to Monkton, but an impressive effort by the all the girls involved.
Player of the match: Isabelle Philpotts, Yasmin Scarr & Harriet White for outstanding performances on the day.
The C team went out with guns blazing, utilising the warmth of the inside court to maximum effect. They moved the ball inspiringly around the court, with every individual making an impact on the game. Amelia Harker shone as she took intercept after intercept, with Meg Hughes and Alex Staines backing her up at every opportunity. With Alice Perkins in fine shooting form, it was always only going to end in one result. The girls really used the width of the court well and balanced their positional spacing to enable effective movement of the ball down court. They finally won the game 10-2, and made an impressive start to their opening game of the season! Well done! Player of the match: Amelia Harker, Alice Perkins, Alex Staines for sensational play!
