OXBRIDGE SUCCESS
Mon 23 Jan, 2012
International Baccalaureate applicants from The Royal High School, Bath for Oxford and Cambridge, have achieved a 100% success rate in receiving offers. All three students who applied have received the offer of a place with a score of 40 points in the IB Diploma: Jennifer Brennan for PPE at University College, Oxford; Eleanor Grundy to read Biological Science at Magdalen College, Oxford; and Bethan Macdonald for Modern and Medieval Languages at Robinson College, Cambridge.
In addition the school celebrates outstanding A Level achievement with three girls being offered places at Cambridge: Betsy Jones to read Classics at Newnham College, Cambridge; Leah Knight to read Modern and Medieval Languages at Girton College, Cambridge and Molly Seymour to read Archaeology and Anthropology at Homerton College, Cambridge.
The Head, Rebecca Dougall is keen to praise her students. “We are delighted to be congratulating our Y13 students who were successful in their applications to Oxford or Cambridge this year. They represent a fascinating range of future courses and a balance between the IB and A level. With all of our IB applicants gaining offers, it’s clear that some of the anxieties that have surrounded IB and Oxbridge might have been unnecessary. What unites these students is a sense of the ‘hunger’ that they are able to articulate about their chosen subjects and an ability to thrive when pushed outside their intellectual comfort zone. This latter point is key and was amply demonstrated by the contents of a fascinating article that appeared in the Guardian recently about the Cambridge selection process. One of our successful applicants described the confidence she felt in making it her interview and another reported back on a really good conversation with tutors. These reflections indicate considerable presence of mind and it’s precisely that which has been snapped up by the various colleges.”
