Royal High students win prestigious science awards

Wed 12 May, 2010

Two of our Sixth Form College students, Katie Costello and Eilis Higgins will both be spending their summer holidays working alongside professional scientists, following their success in this year's awards from the Nuffield Bursary scheme.

The students will enjoy a paid period of scientific work experience in a commercial or academic  environment, which will involve them in real research, at the end of which they will produce a report.  They will also have the chance to submit their reports for a prestigious CREST award, a nationally recognised award for science, technology and engineering.

Royal High students have an outstanding record in national science competitions. For the last two years our winners of Nuffield Bursaries have gone on to achieve both a CREST award and a place in the finals of the nationwide festival of young scientific talent  called 'The Big Bang Fair'.  Katie and Eilis will be hoping to make this the third year in a row in which we have had a successful entry.  The event is attended by leading scientists, politicians and captains of industry.
