Science Detectives

Our science staff, ably supported by sixth form science students hosted an enjoyable event for local junior schools at the weekend. The 'Science Detectives' workshop gave the children the oppprtunity to use scientific apparatus and chemicals and employ scientific knowledge and principles to solve a problem.
A ‘robbery' had taken place and the police had 3 suspects. The science detectives had to work out who the culprit was , using various forensic methods: examining fibres from clothing under a microscope, analysing substances in the chemistry lab, working out mass from a footprint. All of the young scientists worked out beyond any shadow of a doubt the identity of the robber.
