Students make their mark for world peace

Tue 22 Sep, 2009

Our International Baccalaureate students organised a special day of events to mark the United Nations International Day of Peace, which is now officially held every year on 21 September.

The students ran our morning assembly, explaining the origins of International Peace Day, and showed some moving video and photo images of some of the current conflicts in the world.

At lunchtime students and teachers from the whole school got together to produce a human peace symbol and a huge dove of peace, made rom handprints of the students.

Lessons throughout the day in many subjects focused on issues related to peace and conflict.

Peace and Conflict Resolution is one of the cross curricular themes adopted this year by the International Baccalaureate Organisation.  Part of the IB philosophy is to educate young people to become global citizens.
