Monday 26 April 2010 - English Schools Swimming Association - Division 5 Primary Schools Relay Championships
The Royal High Junior School fielded a team of 4 swimmers in this event, entering two relay races, a mixed stroke medley relay and a freestyle relay. The girls were clear winners in their mixed stroke medley relay heat with 9 seconds separating them from second place (finishing time 1 minute 16 .37 seconds); however they needed to attain either first or second place overall from all the heats for this event to go through to the National Finals and were just pipped at the post by 1 second with Kelly's College and Chandag School. They did however finish 3rd out of 25 schools from the region, a great achievement. Realising that they had to really challenge their best swimming times the girls were resolute in their determination to get a good time in the freestyle relay. The competition was most fierce however and despite winning their heat by another clear margin (finishing time 1 minute 7.11 seconds) the girls finished 4th out of 26 teams overall.
All girls are to be congratulated on their team spirit and fantastic performances - well done to Izzy McNab, Iso Staines, Alex Hayman and Alex Withey.
Wednesday 28 April 2010 - Trust Swimming Championships
Monday's event was good preparation for the Trust Swimming Championships. With the addition of Laura McNab to the team of Izzy McNab, Alex Hayman and Alex Withey (Iso Staines was unwell on the day and unable to attend), the girls left Bath early on Wednesday to travel to Croydon to compete. Izzy McNab reached the finals of the butterfly stroke event with Alex Withy reaching the finals of the breast-stroke event. Laura McNab achieved a personal best time in the frontcrawl and all girls, including Alex Hayman swam brilliantly in the Freestyle and Mixed Stroke Medley relays.
Well done girls for your excellent efforts and superb achievement in both of these swimming events. Your team spirit, composure and competitiveness really shone through and we are all extremely proud of you.
