Year 4 Residential Trip to Stone Farm, Devon
Mon 22 Jun, 2009
We had a fantastic time at Stone Farm last week! The girls loved learning about different fish, including sharks, whilst at the Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, as well as enjoying a 4D cinema experience which left us all drenched! The highlight of the week for the girls and staff was visiting the Eden Project. We were challenged with a survival task called “Don’t Forget your Leech Socks”, where the girls had to investigate the uses of plants in the Rainforest Biome for contestants of a reality show. In the humid heat of the rainforest we explored a huge variety of plants used for shelter, medicine, food and water. At the Tamar Otter Sanctuary we were able to hand feed the fallow deer and watched the otters at feeding time; we also saw wallabies with joeys in their pouches. Lunch at Widemouth Bay was followed by a walk on the beach, an ice cream and then a swim at Bude Leisure Centre.
An exciting part of the visit was to look after and feed the animals at Stone Farm – all before breakfast! These included boisterous pigs, cuddly alpacas, greedy goats, Daisy May the donkey, Thunder the pony, Diesel the dog (who loved to play catch) and a huge collection of guinea pigs and rabbits. The girls were also able to fly Hush the barn owl and Hedwig the eagle owl.
Sleeping in dorms was a great experience and we all enjoyed a huge 3 course breakfast each day, with pancakes on the final morning! It was then time to pack our cases and say our goodbyes to the animals before a visit to the White Lady Waterfall at Lydford Gorge. We are looking forward to seeing all of the photographs to remind us of our fantastic week away!
