What an exciting year we have had!

At the beginning of October we celebrated Harvest through song, dance and drama and we thought about how lucky we are to receive all our wonderful food.

Christmas soon came along and once again we were fortunate enough to take our Infant Nativity ‘on tour’, performing at The Egg Theatre in Bath. ‘Shine Star, Shine’ was a real success, with the Year 2 girls performing with confidence in the leading roles. The girls in Year 1 performed with endearing charm as animals and the Reception girls graced the stage as delightful angels.

Back in school the Nursery girls performed their Nativity to proud family and friends and this was to be the final performance on the stage in Gloucester Hall before our move to Cranwell. Years 5 and 6 entertained the shoppers outside the Abbey with a selection of songs and carols and the Junior Carol Service in St Stephen’s Church was a joyous celebration of words, music and dance.

In February the Year 3 girls were the first to perform in our new school with their hugely entertaining pantomime, ‘Sleeping Beauty’. The girls sang, danced and acted with such confidence and were delighted when the audience laughed at their jokes!

Our ‘Grand Opening’ of Cranwell was a very special occasion, involving all our girls from Nursery to Year 6. The girls were builders, Cranwell animals, Removal men, Batmen and Victorian dancers. We even had a special appearance from ‘Mrs Dougall’ – brilliantly impersonated by Flora in Year 6! The girls ended this celebration with a performance of ‘Cranwell Story’, a song especially composed for the occasion.

During this term a group of Year 6 girls took part in ‘Gig Night’ at the Senior School with their band, ‘The Junior Royals’. They not only loved the experience of performing but were also inspired by watching the older girls perform.

In April it was the turn of Year 4, who showed off their talents brilliantly in ‘Year 4 Entertains Around The World’. There was something for everyone in this enjoyable show, with sketches and songs from ‘Frozen’, an exuberant rendition of ‘Rocking All Over The World’ and a glitzy finale complete with silver sequinned waistcoats and hats.

At the start of the Summer term we held a Peripatetic Teachers’ Information evening where girls and parents were invited along to hear about the instrumental teaching on offer in our school. This was a great success and has resulted in more girls taking up instrumental tuition.

Our Music Concert in May gave the School Orchestra and Choir another opportunity to perform and it was wonderful also to hear so many girls, from Reception to Year 6, play and sing with such poise and confidence.

Our Year 5 and 6 Summer Show, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’, was a huge success. To quote one member of the audience, “It really felt like a proper night out at the theatre. I could watch it again and again. What incredible energy throughout. I give it five multicoloured stars!”.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon in July, The Junior School singers, involving girls from Reception to Year 6, took part in a celebration of Music at the Senior School.

To complete a very busy year we held a Dance afternoon, where parents were invited to see the results of their daughters’ hard work in Dance throughout the year. This allowed pupils and parents across year groups to see the development in dance.

The Performing Arts team have also been involved in the preparation of the informative and entertaining class assemblies throughout the year.

Mrs Millard and Miss Debby have enjoyed a wonderful year working with all the girls and feel very proud of what the girls have achieved.
