After School Maths for Parents
Thu 10 Nov, 2011
Our Mathematics Curriculum evening for Junior School parents was highly successful, with many aprents attending and commenting on how helpful they found the event.
The evening was introduced by Mrs Parsons, our Junior School Deputy Head, who gave an overview of how the children's mathematical skills and leaning develop as they progress through the school. The aim of the evening was to ensure that parents know what the girts are being taught in Maths and that they understand how it is taught. Many parents found that teaching methods have changed considerably since their own days at school, and the workshop sessions, focusing on how specific tasks, such as multiplication, division and mental arithmetic are taught puts them in a much better position to help their daughters at home.
Many parents chose to attend the 'Mathletics' workshop, which gave them an insight into how online teaching and learning resources can be integrated into the mathematics curriculum, giving teachers and pupils a flexible tool that can be accessed at home as well as in school. Pupils can take part in fun, live online activities and pit their skills against other young learners from all over the world.
