School Run for Olympic Contenders
From The Bath Chronicle Thu 8 Dec, 2011
Modern Pentathlete Freyja Prentice took time out to give RHS pupils some tips from the top. Freyja is an ambassador for the Wells Sport Foundation, which was established by businessman Barrie Wells, to encourage greater participation by young people in sport. Freyja spent half a day at the The Royal High School and enjoyed having the chance to pass on to youngsters the importance of having a variety of skills and being motivated by different activities. She is also keen to run pentathlon-themed events in schools in order to raise awareness of multi-event sports. Prentice led an inspriational session for the senior school's elite athletes and spoke to all of the pupils about her career in modern pentathlon, having achieved the qualifying standard for London 2012 this year. Following an interactive question and answer session, Prentice said: "These were some of the best questions from any school I have visited." Prentice then led a practical session for the junior school, giving the girls the opportunity to try on her competition fencing kit, and took part in a fun, multi-event practical sport session. "It's great to see enthusiastic kids taking such an interest in modern pentathlon and sport in general. To see the joy they get from something like a fencing taster session is such a rewarding feeling."
