Pupils raise £2k in Cedric's Challenge
From The Bath Chronicle Mon 11 Jun, 2007
Pupils at a Bath school have come top of the class in a challenge to generate funds for the children’s charity NCH.
Youngsters in every year group from nursery to Year 6 at the Royal High Junior School took part in Cedric’s Challenge – a nationwide initiative run by NCH which supports children and young people with difficulties including poverty, disability and abuse.
Pupils were sponsored by family and friends to take on an activity that they could do at home for a week.
Fundraising activities ranged from cooking and recycling household waste to walking backwards to school and talking in different accents.
Their efforts generated more than £2,000 for the cause – the best school performance to date in the region.
Shelagh Hillier, the south west regional fundraiser for the charity said: “What a stunning achievement.
“A total of £2,055 has been raised and this is certainly the most that has been raised so far by a school’s Cedric’s Challenge in my area in the south west.
“It will make such a difference to so many.”
