Year 6 visit to Steam Museum
Fri 12 Oct, 2007
Year 6 pupils enjoyed an unusual day out today as they discovered what it was like to be a child in the Second World War.
The children were seen off from the school by parents, as they made their way to the Steam Museum in Swindon, dressed as 1940s evacuees, with gas mask cases and packed lunches of spam sandwiches in brown paper bags.
During the day the children took part in a number of workshops run by the museum’s education department. They found out what it was like in an air raid shelter during the Blitz and discovered how women’s roles changed as a result of the war.
Do look at the photos of the children in 1940s costume.
