Hockey tournament
Fri 5 Dec, 2008
On Wednesday 3rd December, the U11A team took part in the Independent Schools Hockey Tournament held at King Edward's School.
The first match was against Kingswood School. The team defended brilliantly all the way through but ended up losing 1-0 just as the final whistle went! Although a little disappointing, it was a great start by the team.
The second match was against KES. The girls this time were not going to be beaten. With great movement of the ball across the width of the pitch and a good defensive work throughout the game, the girls managed to retain a clean sheet. The final score finished 0-0.
The third game saw many new changes to the team line up as they stood tall to face Stonar. Again the final score finished 0-0, not quite achieving our goal target!
The fourth match saw the Royal High Junior School taking on Monkton Combe. In a hard fought match, the girls defended outstandingly, clearing shots from the back time after time. The distribution of the ball was beautiful to watch and meant that the transition of play was quick from defence into attack. The final score saw the game finish 0-0 once again.
The fifth game was against Bristol Grammar School, renowned for their Hockey prowess! The girls were not fazed at all by this and played the most wonderful Hockey seen so far. They defended well, attacked hard, created numerous amount of opportunities at goal and worked hard for each other. It was a pleasure to sit back and watch, and finally be the ones that others were appreciating for our skills. In a long and hard fought battle, the game ended once again 0-0.
The penultimate game was against Colston’s Girl’s School. From the start, the Royal High Junior School were on the back foot defending and struggling to clear it out of the half way area. However, after a few minutes of play, they suddenly found their feet and moved forward with good intent at the opposition’s goal. Unfortunately the strike at goal went wide, but at least we were off and running. In the last few minutes of the game, a slight lapse in concentration saw a stray ball finished by a Colston’s player in the back of our net. This was a little disappointing but well struck by the opposition.
The final game saw us take on the Paragon. From the start they showed their superiority in this sport, moving the ball well in to dangerous areas of play, and hitting the ball with precision, strength and accuracy. Although a little wild at times, they certainly deserved their win. The girls from the Royal High Junior School though, fought bravely and courageously to ensure that only 2 goals were scored against us. A lovely match to watch.
All the girls who played should be very proud of their performances on the day and the way in which they conducted themselves. I am very proud of them all and have enjoyed every moment of working with them this year. To see such progress, commitment and dedication by so many talented individuals is one of the most rewarding parts of this job and testament to their own consistent efforts. Well done girls!
A big thank you also once again, to all the parents who came to support this event, it was lovely to see so many of you there supporting. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated by all.
