Netball fixture versus Stonar School
Thu 22 Jan, 2009
The U10A team were excellent showing their true capabilities from the start. They moved the ball well from player to player and used the width of the court to test out some longer, more ambitious tactics! They struggled to score in the first quarter which meant that the score stayed 0-0. Then with a few tactical changes and some rotations of positions, the girls began to find their form. With height at both ends of the court, the girls were taking many interceptions from the opposition and converting them into goals. Their play was commented upon by other members of staff who were impressed with both their mature level of play and professionalism.Final Score 7-3 victory.
The U10B team were quick out of the blocks and were put together some marvellous passages of play. With increased levels of confidence from the last couple of games played, they started to work effectively as a team and turnover lots of ball. They had numerous attempts to score at goal, many of which hit the ring but bounced out the other side. The girls kept persevering with their efforts though, finally to be rewarded a few moments later. The girls moved the ball beautifully around the court, at times making some silly errors which luckily for them were not capitalised upon by the opposition. Learning from their mistakes, they tried harder to be accurate with the ball, leading their own players into great space. With fine performances from all the team, they should be very proud of the result. Final score 5-1 victory . Player of the match: Romilly Moran for great work-rate and effort in the game. The U11 A & B teams had to combine over two halves of the game, to enable them both to play. Stonar had unfortunately been able to field a B team but we were not going to let this dampen our spirits! With the A’s playing in the 1st half and the B’s in the 2nd, it was going to be a great game. The A’s were off exceptionally well, putting on a magnificent display of mature, level headed Netball. The girls were mixing up both long and short passes, displaying solid footwork and using the depth of the court to great effect. Unfortunately, it did take little while to sink some goals with the wind as gusty as it was! With a little touch of ice rain to join in the fun, the girls worked relentlessly to over power their opposition and dazzle them with some spectacular set-plays. Final Score 5-1 victory. They do however, have some more work to perform on their choice of pass and decision making through the centre section of the court! Well done girls, a great start!Player of the Match: Meg Norman for an exceptional performance on the day.
The B’s then took over, and took a little while to get started. They were being pressurised from the whistle, and the defence were being stretched to save the day. With great work-rate and interceptions from the team, they finally managed to move the ball swiftly down court into the final third. However, with only one attempt at goal in this quarter, meant that the girls were having to work hard to stay level with their opposition. Then some changes were made and impact players were brought on. They did so with immediate effect and took many interceptions which were then starting to be converted. When the girls used the width of the court, they were excellent. There is a huge amount of room for improvement here, but there is also a huge amount of raw potential that I cannot wait to see develop in the next few weeks. Final Score 3-7 defeat. Player of the Match: Charlotte Davies, Beatrice Jones & Emma Russell for their commitment and determination. Thank you to all the parents who came to show your support on such a cold and windy day. Your time and encouragement is greatly appreciated by all.
