U10/11 Hockey Fixture v Kingswood School

Wed 2 Dec, 2009

U10AThe team were put under pressure from the first whistle and needed to defend and pass the ball out wide to relieve the pressure on their goal. Hannah Spratt and Isabelle McNab worked tirelessly in defence but soon the girls conceded their first goal. Kingswood continued this run on the RHS goal, but the team found opportunities to counter attack with Olivia Baxter and Minnie Karanjavala combining well with Isobel Bereford in midfield to create some attacking chances. However, even with Emilia Sill doing a sterling job in goal, Kingswood’s pressure on the RHS goal was insurmountable and the second and third goals were scored after several skirmishes in the D.  India Duke provided some welcome relief from the Kingswood attack, and looked the favourite to score for the RHS team, but was thwarted at each attempt. Kingswood finished off the match with a lucky rebound form the goal post, putting the ball away finally to make the score 4-0 in their favour.  Players of the match: Emilia Sill, Isabelle McNab and Hannah Spratt.

U10BThe team were raring to go and set off in fine form attacking the opposition at every opportunity. With the majority of play in the opposition's end, the girls worked tirelessly to create opportunities at goal. With rotations of positions and substitutions being made every few minutes, the girls demonstrated a super capacity to adapt and understand their roles on the pitch. In the second half, the girls really put on a show to be proud off, striking and following the ball at every opportunity. Meg Allan finished beautifully with her team mates backing her up at each attempt. All the girls were outstanding in their play, using the width of the pitch well, tackling hard and distributing accurately. The final score meant that the Royal High School won the game 2-0 with both goals being scored by Meg Allan. All girls should all be very proud of their performances.  Player of the match: Meg Allan for excellent skills, work-rate and strike rate & Emily Richardson for solid defence and distribution.

U11AThe U11A team were keen to get going and utilised the width of the pitch well. However, at times they were caught out of position, to high, and had to fight hard to win possession back. Within a few minutes, the girls found themselves a goal down, but fought back brilliantly to create opportunities at goal.  With Yasmin Scarr distributing the ball finely to Molly Spearman, the ball worked its way into the opposition's half time and time again. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t find the target! Caught too high again, Kingswood punished us and slotted another goal away. With Esme Ivory-Peters, Beth Jolley and Clemmie Ivory-Peters working tirelessly in defence, they tried their utmost to clear ball away. In the dying seconds of the first half, the girls ran clear, moving the ball beautifully around the pitch and finished in style by Yasmin Scarr! All the girls worked hard throughout the match and were exemplary in their performances today.  They should all be very proud of themselves and their sportsmanship towards the opposition. Well done! Player the match: Molly Spearman & Yasmin Scarr for outstanding performances on the day!

U11B                                                                                                                                         The U11B side found themselves battling endlessly with a strong Kingswood attack and within the first minute were a goal down. However, the team rallied, and with excellent defending from a rotating defensive formation of Alexandra Hayman, Alice Perkins, Isabelle Philpotts and Isla Dawson they soaked up the pressure. This defensive display, coupled with Kezia Blackman reacting to close range shots with great reflexes, meant the impact of the Kingswood attack was greatly reduced. The RHS U11B then looked for scoring opportunities with the rotating midfield combination of Zoe Aston, Lara Browne, Milly Sergeant and Imogen Selley to get the ball to Alice Pugsley in attack. Despite the team’s efforts though, Kingswood created several more scoring chances, of which they converted only 2, finishing the match 3-0 to Kingswood. All girls should be really proud of their determined efforts, their resilience under pressure and how well they combined as a team, with some players undertaking multiple roles on the pitch throughout the match – well done!  Players of the match: Kezia Blackman for outstanding goal keeping skills, Alex Hayman for staunch defending, along with Isla Dawson and Alice Perkins, Isabelle Philpotts.
