U10 Hockey Festival at Kingswood School
Wed 4 Nov, 2009
The Royal High School U10A team opened the Kingswood Hockey Hockey Festival in cold and damp conditions on the top of Lansdown Hill with a well matched game against Stonar. Both sides tackled well and passed the ball to their team, with the game flowing from end to end. After a period of play in the RHS defensive half calling for Coco Vercoe to react well to a number of attempts on goal and for staunch defending from Freya Wills and Georgia Howe, Stonar were rewarded with a goal on the final whistle. The second match saw the girls distribute the ball well and use the space of the pitch to move the ball around. Esme Hood was outstanding in midfield, providing Mina Mujib and herself with several attempts on the Kingswood goal. However, a rally from Kingswood saw 3 goals scored in quick succession against a valiant RHS defence. In the penultimate match of the festival, the RHS U10 side came up against the Paragon. With good performances form Emily Best and Amy Morgan the game flowed freely. Coco Vercoe made a crucial save within the final seconds, protecting a 0-0 scoreline. The final match of the game against King Edward's produced some of the best hockey of the festival for the RHS side, King Edward's went ahead early in the match with a good shot at goal, but the girls showed great determination and spirit and fought for possession in every second that followed. They were rewarded when Esme Hood and Eloise Tilbury combined their efforts in an attack on the King 'Edward's goal which provided a clear shot at goal for Eloise, levelling the scores at 1-1. Well done girls, everyone in the team improved their hockey throughout the duration of the festival and all involved should feel proud of their performance. Players of the festival must go to Esme Hood and Freya Wills, for their outstanding contribution throughout the festival in midfield and defence respectively.
