U10 Hockey Fixture v St Stephen's School

Thu 29 Jan, 2009

On Wednesday 28th January, the U10 A and B Hockey teams took part in a new fixture against St Stephens. The report is as follows:

The U10A team were ready and raring to go, excited to be playing another Hockey fixture out of season. They moved the ball well and used the width of the pitch to great effect. Coming under fire from a mixed St Stephen’s team, the girls held their own well against the boys! Showing great stick skills and vision, they were off to a good start, but under fire from a strong St Stephen’s first team. They defended hard, but were up against some strong opposition. Enjoying every minute of the experience, the girls finally lost 3-0, but performed outstandingly well. They were mentally and physically tough, and certainly ready for the challenge!

Player of the Match: Jessie Tucker for excellent individual skills work on and off the ball.

The U10B team were also off to a great start, but under fire immediately from strong skilled players. Up against another mixed team, the girls found themselves having to work at twice the speed and skill level they were used to, but took the challenge head on. They were 2-0 down within the first few minutes, but suddenly started to find their form. Clawing the game back to 2-2, the girls moved the ball beautifully and began testing the opposition in the same way. With admirable play from both teams, the final score meant that the Royal High School lost 6-3.

Player of the Match: Harriet White, Alice Pugsley and Laura Clifford-Ward for great determination and stick skills on the day.

Thank you once again to all the parents who came to support, it was lovely to see so many of you there encouraging the girls. Thanks also to all those parents who helped serve the refreshments, your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated.
