U10 & U11 Hockey

Mon 29 Sep, 2008

On Friday 26th September, the U10 A & B and U11 A & B teams took part in an annual fixture against Prior Park. With a huge amount of determination and effort, the girls put together some impressive displays of Hockey to produce the following results: The U10A team were outstanding. With a huge amount of depth and talent amongst the year group, it was always going to be a special moment to watch them in action. From the start the girl’s stamped their authority on their opponents, moving the ball swiftly amongst each other to create many opportunities at goal. With consistently good play and commitment to tackles, it wasn’t long before the girls took their first goal. They continued to press hard for the duration of the match, eventually winning their game 2-1. A special mention should be given to Yasmin Scarr who not only scored both goals and was very impressive in her play for the U10’s, but scored another goal whilst playing for Y6’s.
Player of the match goes to both Yasmin Scarr and Jessie Tucker for their exceptional stick control and ball skills on the day.
The U10B team were just as eager and determined. From the start they set the pace, pressing hard on the opposition creating lots of opportunities at goal. For a long while, the ball was kept in the opposition's half, demonstrating just how committed the girls were to making tackles and driving the ball forward. The girls swapped roles throughout the game playing in a variety of different positions, and still managed to have many shots on target. The final score was 0-0.
Player of the match goes to Alice Pugsley and Imogen Selley for calm, mature play in distributing and moving the ball effectively.
The U11A team started very cautiously and were soon under fire from the opposition. They worked hard to try and keep up with the pace of the game, but soon realised that it was team work that could make the difference. By half time, the girls were being heavily defeated, but with some words of inspiration from Mrs Potter, the girls picked up their game to show their opposition what they were really made of. Moving the ball quickly and accurately across the pitch, the girls soon found their form and realised just how important it was to work together to create opportunities at goal. Although they didn’t score, they did learn a huge amount from this game, and look forward to their next fixture where they can put what they have learnt into action! A great spirit and effort shown by all girls, giving 200% throughout. Although defeated, they did both themselves and the school proud.
Player of the match: Charlotte Penney for her excellent defensive skills.
The U11B team started slowly but soon picked up the pace to create opportunities at goal. With Lily Benham leading from the front line, there was always a definitive target to aim for in the attacking end. With many girls leading their debut performances, it was a drop in the ocean and a steep learning curve. However, under the leadership of Beatrice Jones, the girls soon pulled together to work out how to move through their opposition effectively. A great pass from Lily Benham into Yasmin Scarr saw a great opportunity at goal saved, only to be followed up by Yasmin who sank the ball into the right hand corner of the goal. With continued effort and hard work, the girls put in a very spirited performance. Well done to all the Y5 girls who contributed to this game (Molly Spearman, Alice Pugsley, Yasmin Scvarr, Jessie Tucker). The final score was 5-1 to Paragon.
Player of the match goes to Lily Benham and Beatrice Jones for consistently good work on the pitch.
