U10 & U11 Netball Fixture v All Hallows School
Thu 29 Jan, 2009
On Thursday 29th January the U10 and U11 A & B teams took part in an annual fixture against All Hallows. The report is as follows:
The U10A team were off to a great start, moving the ball well in attack and turning over numerous interceptions all over the court. However, although the team had plenty of goal scoring opportunities, the ball just would not go through the net! The girls used their ‘long ball’ to great effect but found themselves matched against good opposition. With turnovers happening from end to end, the score was going to be too close to call! The game finally ended with a 2-2 draw, which was a real reflection of both teams’ performances on the day.
The U10B team started off well, playing some good Netball in both attack and defence. However, they found themselves on the back foot defending after a few minutes, as All Hallows took an early lead. With great spirit and enthusiasm as usual, the girls staged a comeback but eventually lost 5-3 to the opposition, who deserved their win.
The U11A team got off to a flying start and were using the long ball wisely and maturely. However, after a few minutes, the tall defence of the opposition started to capitalise on their strengths, intercepting our long ball on several occasions. The girls then changed their play and mixed up some great long and short ball, which was clearly keeping the opposition on their toes. They moved the ball well down the court and shot beautifully to ensure a great victory for the team. Some excellent defensive work saw our goal margin increase even further. The final score finished 8-4 to the Royal High School.
Players of the match: Charlotte Penney, Meg Norman, Izzy Hodgson for some great defensive and attacking play.
The U11B team also made a cracking start, with numerous turnovers being made. Some nice rotation work in the circle ensured that the ball was given safely to the shooters, who delivered on nearly every occasion. The girls fought hard from start to finish and put together some great passages of play in both attack and defence. Their distribution of the ball sometimes got them into trouble, but hard pressured play ensured that possession was soon resumed! The girls were exceptional in their performance and the score finally finished with a 4-1 win to the Royal High School.
Players of the match: Isobel Dickinson, Emma Russell, Charlotte Davies, Ellie Irish for excellent skills and movement on the day.
