Wartime baby goes back to school
Mon 7 Nov, 2011
Year 6 pupils had a very special visitor on Friday. Mr Butler, (father of Anna in Year 6) was born just two months after the start of World War 2. He has a vivid memory of what it was like to be a small child in wartime Britain and recounted some of them to the children, who were fascinated to learn, first hand what life was like for families in those dark days.
He brought in a number of items of memorabilia, including toys, books and photos. The children had lots of questions for him too, particularly in the light of their recent visit to Swindon's Steam Museum, where they learned about the Blitz and what it was like to be an evacuee.
Mr Butler's visit was part of the children's history project on wartime Britain. It was a very enjoyable occasion for everyone.
