About Us: Careers Guidance
The key aims of the department are to ensure that young people are able to-
* Develop the attitudes and values required for employability and lifelong learning
* Manage their individual career and future lifestyle pathways and make effective career choices
* Begin to develop the skills required by employers
* Be interested in becoming entrepreneurial
* Be motivated to face the challenges, choices and responsibilities of adult life
The department uses a variety of strategies to deliver the above student entitlement.
The Careers Co-ordinator is available for one to one guidance as required by individual students. Her role is to present as many different opportunities, role models and specific events as possible for students to improve their knowledge of the world of work. These are relevant, non-stereotypical and embrace equal opportunities. Students are able to seek help with work experience placements as necessary and are encouraged to undertake placements which broaden their knowledge of the working environment in the area that interests them. Whilst on placement students are exposed to the kind of skills required and are encouraged to develop their own skills accordingly.
Individual interviews or guidance meetings are held in the Careers Library where there is a private area. The library houses a range of user friendly and up to date resources displayed logically. This area is open for browsing all day and after school and has internet access.
Students are encouraged to attend the various extra curricular events that the department stages to support them. As much help as is required is given to students as they work through the university application process or choose an alternate route into their careers. Mock University Interviews are easily arranged on request.
By presenting as many different opportunities to learn about the World of Work as possible, the department aims to help to motivate students to face the challenges of the future.
