Performing Arts News

In the Senior School, rehearsals have begun on ‘Oh What a Lovely War’ with a cast taken from all year groups throughout the school and college. Ben Pender, supported by the musical direction of Michael Cockerham, is hard at work constructing an innovative production of this Joan Littlewood classic, using both music, song and physical theatre techniques to create and exciting whole school production. In November, after half term, there will be the highly popular and vibrant Ceilidh Picnic taking us cheerfully into Winter and whetting our appetites for the Carol Cervice at the end of term in Bath Abbey. Coming up in the Spring and Summer will be the Dance show, the Lunch box theatre performances and the summer Year 8 & 9 production, alongside the GCSE, A Level and IB Theatre practicals. Once again the Performing Arts Faculty is launched into a new and lively year!  Plans are moving forward for the conversion of the Old Chapel into a new Performing Arts facility. The local planners have given the go-ahead, and work will begin this term. This will add a multi purpose performing space to the faculty; a place where concerts and productions can take place in a splendid and striking atmosphere but where also there can be a more intimate space, such as theatre-in-the-round. This space, the new Pascoe Theatre, will be equipped with the latest sound and lighting technology and put the Royal High on the theatrical venue map!”
