Chain Reaction for Charity

Chain reaction for charity
Pupils from the Royal High School have been doing their bit to support homeless people.  Youngsters have been donating various items to a new charity shop, which will be run by Julian House.  A class of Year 9 pupils held a special swap day, which saw other students and staff bring in items to be sold in the shop and exchanging them for home-made cakes.  To encourage donations of CDs, DVDs and clothes, the students organised a competition for the tutor group that brought in the most items. They also invited community fundraiser for the homelessness charity, Cathy Adcock, to talk at a school assembly about the organisation’s work.  Mrs Adcock said:   “We are delighted that the girls have generated such a terrific amount of items for the new charity shop.  It’s a lovely example of how the community can support Julian House, finding out what its needs are and really making it happen.  We are very grateful for their hard work and enthusiasm.”Yesterday the students filled a van with all the donations and formed a human chain to do the loading.  The shop in St James’ Parade is due to open in the week beginning Monday, December 8.  People who would like to donate items can take them to the shop from that date.
