Chef opens new school facilities

CHEF OPENS NEW SCHOOL FACILITIES

A Bath chef cooked up a storm to mark the opening of a school’s new food technology suite.

Richard Bertinet, who runs cookery school The Bertinet Kitchen, in St Andrew’s Terrace, paid a visit to the Royal High School to share his culinary skills with students.

Pupils had the chance to work with the chef and award winning author; trying their hand at novel ways of preparing and presenting fruit and vegetables.

The session included making floral decorations from tomatoes and carrots.

The new facilities include an A Level teaching room and library.

Mr Bertinet said: “It is great to see so much enthusiasm for learning to cook interesting and quality food.

“Today’s workshop is about showing it should be enjoyable too.”

Tiffany Teasdale, head of food technology at the school, said the investment in new facilities had come at the right time.

“With so much government interest in the importance of teaching students to be able to cook properly and eat healthily, we are pleased to be able to ensure that all our students are equipped with the necessary skills,” she said.

“We are also able to run after-school cookery clubs for children from local junior schools.”
