New Head is Appointed
From The Bath Chronicle Thu 11 Dec, 2008
A headteacher in waiting has been appointed at The Royal High School in Bath. In a year's time, Rebecca Dougall will take over from James Graham-Brown as principal of the independent school at Lansdown. He is stepping down from the role at the end of next year. Mrs Dougall is currently the school's deputy principal and director of the new co-educational Royal High Sixth Form College, which opened in September. After graduating with a first in English from Bristol University, her first teaching post was at Wycombe Abbey. In 1999 she moved to Oxford High School which, like The Royal High, is a member of the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), the country's largest group of independent schools. She was appointed deputy head there in 2003 before serving as acting head during 2005. She moved to Bath two years ago. Mrs Dougall said: "I was delighted to join the Royal High two years ago. It is a wonderful school and one which is rightly highly regarded within the GDST. It has stayed true to its commitment to nurture independent thinking, tolerant and responsible young adults and I am now thrilled and very proud to have the opportunity to lead it to further success and development." Outside the workplace she is a film buff, with a particular passion for movies of the 1930s and '40s. Other interests include the history of design, photography, sport and travel. She lives in Bath with her husband who is a history teacher.
