Subjects: Economics & Business

GCSE Option -  Business & Economics Years 10 and 11

Business Studies and Economics GCSE is included in the school's curriculum so that you have an opportunity to have a better understanding of the current business and economics issues that affect your lives. The subjects are normally taught in groups of up to 15 pupils for GCSE.

Business Studies and Economics are taught together in a combined investigation based course with some Business Studies concerning the day to day running of a business e.g. marketing, accounts, business plans, breakeven and employment but also some Economics where we look at the wider picture – prices and markets, the effects of business activity on the country in general, the role of government and the environment.

Teaching is undertaken with an informal lecture style with an emphasis on discussion, question and answer, hopefully leading to fun and lively debates. ICT is in integral part of the GCSE course. There are three pieces of coursework completed in Year 10 and two in Year 11, using ICT and the Internet. We are able to make full use of ICT in the classroom using PowerPoint projectors. It is possible to keep very up-to-date with recent developments with wireless internet access in the classroom.

We usually visit Cadbury World in the summer term of Year 10.
