Spring Term 2008 Charity Events
Once again, the Spring term was a very busy one with the focus on the Crane Academy, our sister school in Kitale, Kenya. The cake sales and smoothie sales proved as popular as ever popular and the Sponsored Silence was especially lucrative. “A Night at the Musicals” was a runaway success with packed audiences enjoying the singing and dancing from a variety of West End shows; this spectacle raised over £1,000. Similarly successful was “Has Bath Got Talent?” The gauntlet was thrown down and the answer came back a resounding yes. From rock bands to heart-rending unaccompanied solos the vocal audience certainly had their money’s worth and voted Emma Holland as the best act with her own compositions. Hundreds of pounds were raised once again. Undoubtedly the major event was KUMBU KUMBU, an exhibition of portraits taken at the Crane by internationally known photographer, David Partner. Also a current parent, David’s photographs brought the Kenyan school to life with portraits of the students and staff adorning the walls of the Chapel Row Gallery. Thanks to the kindness of Josie Reed, the gallery owner, and numerous local firms the overheads were taken care of, so all sales were pure profit, raising over £6,000. All in all, we neared a total of £10,000 to help the Crane, funds which are sadly needed even more in these troubled times. We are also helping an orphanage in Ghana this year. We have already by raised over £1000, which Dr Pascoe and Mr Leather will take out with them this summer. They will spend time working on various projects, putting the funds raised to immediate and very practical use.
