Crimefighting lessons for students

From The Bath Chronicle Thu 24 Sep, 2009

More than 100 students from across the country have been learning about tackling crime and anti-social behaviour during an event at a Bath school.  The Royal High School ran this year's Young Leaders' Conference to give talented sixth-formers a chance to discuss social issues and give recommendations to a panel of experts.  During the annual event, the teenagers discussed how communities could be made safer and worked in groups to identify key tarrget areas and policies for reducing crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.  Superintendent Geoff Spicer, from Bath police, attended the three-day conference to speak to the youngsters about the issues.  Royal High spokesman Deryck Goodman said the event had gone well and thanked everybody involved.  He said:  "This was a really challenging experiene for the students.  They had to work under a lot of pressure, master a great deal of complex information and work co-operatively.  It's a steep learning curve but a real insight for them into the skills and qualities they will need as potential leaders in the future.  We are grateful to the police and other community organisations who have contributed to this event."
