New Art School

From Folio Magazine Mon 1 Dec, 2008

Professor Sir Christopher Frayling (Arts Council England Chairman and rector of the Royal College of Art) was guest of honour at last month's official opening of Bath's Royal High School's new Art School.  Designed by Bath architects Tektus, working closely with the school's Director of Art Graeme Preedy, the purpose-built environment houses specialist studios for drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking, as well as a library and kiln room.  "We're really fortunate to have a building that's been specifically designed around the needs of art students," says Graeme.  The investment by the Girls Day School Trust in this facility will help to maintain the Royal High's reputation as a centre of excellence in art education.  The Art Department gained a coveted Good Schools Guide award in 2006 and has an outstanding track record of rsults at GCSE and A-level.  Students continue to choose art and design careers in impressive numbers, with many gaining places at some of the country's best art colleges, including Chelsea, Glasgow, the London College of Fashion, and Central St Martins.
