Pupils get top marks for their high achievements

Awards for school children’s achievements have been handed out in Bath.

Young people from across Bath and north east Somerset were congratulated for their initiative and enterprise by the chairman of B&NES Council, Cllr Ian Dewey.

He held a special reception for the young people who had won this year’s Chairman’s Business Award and Chairman’s Education Award.

The business accolade was won by 15 members of the Royal High School’s Young Enterprise team.

Students from the school’s Tree Huggers and Cake Lovers team have already won awards for their eco-friendly bags for sustainable living.

The reception was attended by pupils and staff from the winning schools, along with councillors, council officers and representatives of Young Enterprise South West.

Each year the chairman of the council is invited to present the awards and to select the criteria for nominations.

Cllr Dewey said: ‘I am delighted to be able to present these awards to young people in our area. The staff of the winning schools for my Education Award have worked closely with their pupils and school councils to provide a huge range of facilities to improve their playing and socialising.

I am very impressed with the care and understanding that has been shown in the wide provision for our pupils.

I was also very inspired by the high standard of entries for the Young Enterprise Awards from which I selected the winners of my Business Award. The originality if the entries and the talents demonstrated were of a high standard and it has been a privilege to be part of the judging team. I wish all the entries every success with their future careers.’’
