This year's GCSE, A Level and International Baccalaureate Diploma results underline another year of outstanding achievement, hard work and professionalism by our students and staff. The GCSE examinations results produced the best set of grades in the school's history. A stunning 75% of all entries were awarded an A* or A, with 43% at the very top grade. No fewer than 26 students gained 8 or more A* results.
Outstanding individual performances included Syvanne Aloni, Rosemary Chamberlain and Claire Butler (12 A*s each), Antonia Garrett Peel (11 A* plus 1A) Amy Cronan (11 A*s) and sisters Charlotte and Hannah Woodland, who notched up 22 A* and A grades between them.
Results were exceptional across the range of subjects. Music students posted a 100% A* to A score sheet, with Spanish (92%) Biology (91%), Physics (88%) and Italian (81%) in hot pursuit.
A Level students posted a 100% pass rate this year, once again showing strength in depth and breadth in their results. "With 94% of the passes at A* - C, it is absolutely fabulous to see our students putting in such starring performances across the curriculum," commented a delighted Head, Mrs Rebecca Dougall.
Our sixth form college has built on the success of previous years, establishing a strong set of results across the spectrum of subjects. A stunning 70% of Art students were awarded an A* grade, with Mathematics (60%) and English (50%) also recording outstanding numbers of students with the top grade.
Particular congratulations go to Helen Sunderland and Sophie Balme, who achieved respectively four and three A* grades. They will now take up their places to read History and Law at their first choice universities. A further four students were awarded two A* grades each.
Our International Baccalaureat Diploma students achieved an average of 36 points each, way above the IB World School average, and a significant improvement on last year's impressive results. A fifth of the students gained 40 points or more and over 70% of the subjects taken at the more demanding Higher Level earned 6 or 7 points (generally held to be at least equivalent to A and A* grades respectively at A Level).
Commenting on the results, a delighted Anna Weston, the college's IB Co-ordinator said: "This is a great set of results for the students and a huge boost for the IB Diploma, which is now firmly established in the college. Our IB students will be very well represented at the country's leading universities, in the most competitive subjects such as law, medicine, economics and architecture."
