Around The School

We are understandably proud of the facilities available to us at the Royal High School. As part of our School Development Plan, we annually review our needs. We enjoy the support of the GDST for major projects, such as the building of our magnificent Sports Hall and Science Laboratories. We are also generously supported by the Friends of the Royal High School, whose fundraising activities have enabled us to refurbish a number of areas of the school.

Our provision for Information and Computer Technology (ICT) is continuously developing in  accordance with our thinking how ICT can best support learning and teaching across the school.. We currently have four ICT suites with sufficient PCs to allow a class of students to have a computer each. One of these suites is dedicated to the Junior School and another to learning in Modern Languages. We also have a growing number of class sets of laptops allowing students to use them in lessons as needed. Students studying in the 6th form are provided with their own, dedicated laptop for use across the curriculum, both in college and at home. We provide access to PCs as and where necessary, such as in the library or in the boarding houses.

The Senior School and Sixth Form College site has wireless access throughout and all students  have their own email address. They also have access to the GDST MyPlace portal, an interactive learning website both in school and at home..

A purpose-built science building contains eight specialist laboratories constructed around a central atrium. This exciting design encourages interdisciplinary study and complements the school's natural strength in science subjects.

In addition to the music classrooms, there are several practice rooms that the girls may use for private study or personal music practice. The Orchestra Rehearsal Room is at the heart of the Music Department. Our Performing Arts Centre hosts a number of major performances each year, featuring music, drama and dance.

Our  Astroturf all-weather pitch for hockey and tennis has enhanced our sports facilities. The Hudson Centre provides a venue for lectures and meetings. It now has full multi-media facilities with two large wall mounted screens and data projectors. We have established 'The Space' as a place for faith based meetings or quiet contemplation.

The Art School building was opened in 2009 and provides our students with four new studios, designed to give optimal lighting and space.
