The Crane Academy, Kenya

The Royal High School has a partner school in Kenya, The Crane Academy, which is in Kitale in the North West of the country. Many of the girls who attend the school are orphans and others have parents who struggle to afford even the modest tuition fees. Although its facilities and resources are limited, the Crane Academy is doing valuable work to help give the rising generation a better future.  Our link developed out of a GAP Year placement by a former Royal High student who inspired us to forge a long term relationship, including the creation of a Trust Fund which has already raised several thousand pounds.

We are proud of our continuing association. We have had great fun raising money to sponsor students (now numbering over 20) and provide essential supplies, thanks to the immense generosity of our student body, parents, teachers and local firms.  At the same time the news from the Crane continues to give food for thought for us over in the UK. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology we can feel closer than the thousands of miles in reality.

Here is a recent email from The Crane Academy:

Dear Royal High

The Friendship between the Crane Academy and the Royal High School in the UK is very good. A lot of things have taken place within the Crane School as a result of this Friendship.

We feel great and wish it to grow stronger. Presently with the help of the Royal High School, we have been able to put our resources together and have bought a 29 seater bus to help with the routine Transport chores. You can see the Launching pupils are excited.

We have also bought a 1000 litre Tank for Rain Water Harvest near the Girls dormitory to serve them,  especially in the morning and late in the evening. The Well is very far and we don't have tap water and it is useful for learning resources too.

We are much better than before in terms of reading materials for the entire School. The Crane management ,Students and community feel grateful. Long live Royal High Girls, Management Headteacher, All teachers, Sponsors Donors and our beloved Lynda.
