A Year in Performing Arts at the Prep School

We always have a fun filled year with many exciting shows and events.

In October we present ‘Year 4 Entertains’ which gives the girls the opportunity to share their many talents, from dancing, gymnastics to sketching or playing an instrument. The girls also present group dances and songs and perform on a stage with a purpose built set.

At the end of November we are fortunate enough to take our Infant Nativity ‘on tour’, performing at The Egg Theatre in Bath. Year 2 girls perform in the leading roles with wonderful support from Year 1 and Reception.

Back in school at the start of December the Nursery girls perform their Nativity to the rest of the school and proud family and friends. Years 5 and 6 entertain the shoppers outside the historic Bath Abbey with a selection of songs and carols, and the Prep Carol Service in St Stephen’s Church is a joyous celebration of words, music and dance, featuring the School Choir and Orchestra.

In February it is the turn of the girls in Year 3. Every year a different pantomime is  performed with all the traditional pantomime elements such as audience participation, goodies and baddies. This is linked to their theme work in class.

During the Spring term Year 6 girls take part in ‘Gig Night’ at the Senior School, performing songs they have composed in their weekly music lesson. They not only love the experience but are also inspired by watching the older girls perform. Another event in this term is the Dance Show where we link with the Senior School for an exuberant evening featuring many styles of dancing.

Our Music Concert is in the summer term and this not only gives the School Orchestra and Choir another opportunity to perform, but is also a time to showcase the work of our instrumentalists and singers.

Our Year 5 and 6 Summer Show in June is one of the highlights of the year. Previous shows have included ‘Alice In Wonderland’, ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’, ‘The Aristocats’, and ‘Seussical’.

At the end of the Summer term, The Prep School Choir and Orchestra take part in a Summer Music Concert in the grounds of the Senior School.

Our Prizegiving Ceremony always includes songs and dances from our main events during the year.

The Performing Arts team are also involved in the preparation of the informative and entertaining class assemblies throughout the year and there are sometimes extra events too. This year we have taken part in ‘A Night At the Musicals’ at the Senior School and have joined the Senior School and Parents’ Choirs for a performance of ‘Noye’s Fludde’ by Benjamin Britten in Bathwick St Mary’s Church.
