We have an extensive extra-curricular dance programme at the Royal High School, led by Rebecca Kovas our Dance Subject Leader and supported by highly experienced dance teachers. We also enjoy workshops from visiting professional companies.
Our Dance programme has flourished and grown into one of the most popular activities that our students can get involved in. Experienced dancers are challenged and given opportunities to lead classes and create their own choreography, acting as role models for our younger students. Newcomers to dance are supported through their initiation into the dance world and pushed to discover and hone their skills.
A plethora of dance styles are taught and tried out in our dance clubs and companies, from ballet, tap and jazz to salsa, contemporary and the Lindy Hop (to name but a few!). All dance activities take place in our Sophie Cameron Performing Arts Centre and our specialist Dance Studio, both of which house barres, mirrors, dance floors and strong sound systems.
The highlight of the dance year is the annual Dance Show – a glittering spectacle involving hundreds of girls giving top-level performances. Always a sell-out, the girls’ abilities never fail to stun the audiences, and all involved can be very proud of the top quality show they help to create.
