Extra-curricular Drama offers a wide range of enriching and extremely popular activities to students throughout the school.
The lively programme of drama activities on offer provides numerous opportunities to explore and experiment through theatre. Taking place every autumn, the whole school musical is an extremely popular event and recent productions have included: ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Oliver!’
Year 12 Drama Scholars run a hugely successful Drama club for Y7 pupils. The girls meet every week and during the spring term they work together to put on a small performance. In previous years, they have performed extracts from ‘The Witches’, ‘Arabian Nights’ and ‘Matilda’ as well as creating and performing small group pieces.
Alongside providing a range of performance opportunities, we offer the chance to work behind the scenes on such things as costume, set design, make-up, and lighting and sound. Students will be given the opportunity to work with our professionally trained performing arts technician and to join the backstage crew.
There are numerous theatre trips throughout the year and we often work with visiting theatre companies such as ‘Splendid Productions.
We also offer LAMDA lessons and many of our students have great success in solo, duo and group performances of both devised and scripted pieces. A number of our students also win various prizes in the Mid-Somerset Festival.
Many of our girls achieve great success at the Mid Somerset Festival. LAMDA is also very popular at the school and we have two highly talented LAMDA teachers who offer lessons across the year groups, achieving outstanding results in all grades. Drama Scholarships are available to those entering the school in Year 7. As well as being involved in the various school productions, the Scholars have their own programme of activities including masterclass workshops, performance evenings and theatre trips.
