Alumna Bella designs jacket for Grammy winner Zachary James
Alumnae, Art, Student Success, Alumna Spotlight
Bella graduated from RHS in the summer of 2025, but her journey into costume design began long before that. When she was in Year 12, she went to see Hadestown on the West End. Inspired by the production, she reached out on Instagram to Zachary James - the Grammy‑winning opera singer who played Hades - to compliment the outfit he had designed and worn to the Olivier Awards. She mentioned she was an aspiring costume designer and asked whether he might let her create a “red‑carpet look inspired by Hadestown” for him. To her astonishment, he replied immediately and said yes
She created the jacket - and even assisted at London Fashion Week.
Last week, he returned to London for his sold‑out concert at Crazy Coqs and asked to wear Bella’s jacket. The next day, she continued sewing and giving the jacket the finishing touches until 30 mins before she had to leave for the concert! He walked onstage wearing her creation - and invited Bella up to speak about her design in front of a room full of West End stars, producers, and directors - a moment she’ll never forget
Next year she is off to study costume design at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
We're so proud of Bella
