On Saturday 24th of February, boarders from both School House and Gloucester House set out to the Bristol Hippodrome Theatre to see the gravity-defying musical ‘Wicked’ and it was surely an afternoon well spent. Upon arrival, we were very surprised by the theatre itself. It is generally bigger and of a more beautiful design, than the London theatres, I have been to.
As the curtains opened, the three-hour prequel to the Wizard of Oz began. We were all amazed by the dazzling colours, costumes and ballgowns. The set was spectacular including a huge prop of a moving dragon that kept everyone in awe, not to mention the exquisite vocals of the entire cast.
The highlight of the musical was definitely the performance of the well-known piece 'defying gravity'. It was an emotional performance and very moving, some of us may have been in tears (not naming names). The musical was not only glamorous, it also holds a deeper meaning of friendship and love which is relatable to all of us. The show overall was just fantastic and I think we all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
